Ranchlands has been operating in Townsville since 1976, with Jenny and Lew Haines at the helm from the beginning.
Ranchlands has been teaching adults and children to ride horses, with some families in their 3rd generation.
We cater for young horse crazy children from 7 years to adults who have always wanted to ride but never had the opportunity. Students can participate in private or group classes, where they can learn basic horsemanship, dressage, games on horseback and jumping. Students travel at their own pace.
One of the most wonderful things about riding is that everyone can enjoy the experience. Besides helping you to get fit and stay supple, you will meet like-minded people and have a chance to interact with the world of the horse.
Along with Riding Lessons we also offer agistment, holiday programs and Equine Assisted Learning.

For 50 incredible years, Ranchlands Equestrian Centre has been sharing the joy of horses with the Townsville community.
Founded and lovingly operated by Jenny and Lew Haines, Ranchlands has introduced thousands of children and adults to the magic of horses. For many, it has been the place of their very first ride, first trot and first canter — and where a lifelong love of horses began.
Over five decades, we have had the privilege of teaching generations of local families, watching children grow into adults who have returned with children of their own. Through riding lessons, school holiday programs, camps, gymkhanas and countless special moments, Ranchlands has become so much more than a riding school. It has become a much-loved part of our community.
An End of an Era — Jenny and Lew Retire
After 50 wonderful years, Jenny and Lew have made the decision to retire, and Ranchlands Equestrian Centre will officially close on Thursday, 26 November 2026.
This is a bittersweet milestone as we celebrate the remarkable contribution Jenny and Lew have made to the local horse community. Their dedication, passion and commitment have created a legacy that will live on through the countless riders, families and horses who have been part of the Ranchlands story. We are incredibly proud of what has been built over the past 50 years and grateful to everyone who has helped make Ranchlands such a special place.
Important Information for New Clients
As we approach our closure, we are no longer accepting new clients or bookings.
Our remaining classes and activities will continue for our existing riders until we close on 26 November 2026.
We are also delighted that all Ranchlands horses have found homes with current Ranchlands riders, where they will enjoy their own well-deserved semi-retirement with people who know and love them. ❤️🐴
